S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University (EKU) is focused on achieving a high level of development of the University through the implementation of goals and objectives set by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the development of higher education.The mission of the University is to provide a leading role in the international scientific and educational space for the formation of competitive specialists for innovative development of Kazakhstan. The implementation of this mission is the preparation of competent, socially responsible and competitive specialists possessing modern technologies, skills of scientific-pedagogical and research activities, corresponding to the world labour market requirements. In addition, the implementation of the mission provides for the formation of a unified cultural, educational, intellectual and innovative space of the University, ensuring the quality of continuing education in accordance with global trends and the principles of the Bologna process, active international cooperation and ensuring academic mobility of students and staff of the University. Vision: The University in the innovative development of Kazakhstan positions itself as a research and educational centre, ranking among the best universities in the country and the world.

The university trains specialists in 59 bachelor's specialties in full-time, evening and part-time modes of study, 39 master's specialties, and 12 PhD doctoral specialties in the following areas: "Education, Natural Sciences, Business, Technical Sciences, Services and Law.
Scientific activities are carried out by research laboratories and centres of EKSU: the National Research Laboratory of Collective Use (Laboratory of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Training and Production Site, Testing Laboratory of Physical and Chemical Research), Altaytanu Research Centre, Institute of Further Professional Education (Rukhani Zhangyru Centre, Nazarbayevtanu Research and Education Centre, Ziyatker Research and Education Centre, Centre for Economic Research and Development). The National Scientific Collaborative Laboratory is the only one in the Eastern region.The international cooperation of the University is aimed at integration into the global educational community, participation in the work of authoritative interstate associations, interaction with leading universities of near and far abroad countries. The university is a member of seven international associations of universities: Eurasian Association of Universities (1995); International Academy of Higher Education (1998); Great Charter of Universities (2009); International Coordinating Council "Our Common Home - Altai" (2011); Association of Asian Universities (2013), European University Association (2016), Regional Network "Education and Training of Nuclear Technology (STARNET)" (2016). Since 2014, EKSU has chaired the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in the Greater Altai Area. Expanding cooperation with foreign universities is one of the priority areas of EKSU's development. Every year the boundaries of cooperation with partner universities are expanded, new agreements are signed. At present the university implements international activities with higher educational institutions of the United States, Great Britain, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, France, China, South Korea, Portugal. The university has agreements on double-diploma education with universities in South Korea (Jiongsang National University, Chengju) and the Russian Federation (Altai State Technical University named after I.Polzunov, Altai State University, Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University). Within the framework of international exchange and programmes of international organisations (DAAD, Erasmus+, ITEC, UGRAD, Goethe-Institut, Mevlana) students and teaching staff of the university studied and had internships abroad. Currently, educational and research projects are implemented within the framework of international programmes UNISEF, Erasmus+, Tempus and British Council.
